The Mormon concept of hell—a place of eternal suffering—is reserved only for the very wicked. Members of other faiths, many of whom are honestly seeking God, will by no means be condemned to hell. In fact, Mormons believe some of God's truth can be found in all religions. A 1978 official First-Presidency message states, "The great religious leaders of the world such as Mohammed, Confucius, and the Reformers, as well as philosophers including Socrates, Plato, and others, received a portion of God’s light. Moral truths were given to them by God to enlighten whole nations and to bring a higher level of understanding to individuals."
The false notion that Mormons believe those of other faiths will go to hell is so widespread that it even got mentioned on South Park!
