Where do mormons believe that life actually starts?

I'm not 100% sure if life as a mortal begins at conception or later, but I believe it to be at conception. Either way however, the LDS church actively speaks out against abortion except in cases where the mother's life is in danger or rape/incest. We believe the unborn as children of God just as we are.AllAboutMormons.com Webmaster from La Jolla:
Hi friend. I don't believe the Mormon Church has an "official answer" to your question. I've heard Brigham Young once claimed that life starts when the mother first feels her child kicking. This statement is not considered doctrinal, however, and I suspect most Mormons believe life starts much earlier. The previous answerer is right on regarding abortion. The Mormon Church considers abortion to be a very serious sin. The only exceptions are in case of danger to the mother's health, rape, incest, or if the baby has severe defects that will not allow it to survive beyond birth. Even in these cases, though, abortion shouldn't be automatic. The parents should carefully consider their options, seeking guidance from church leaders and from the Lord through prayer.
Abortion is not a just solution to extra-marital pregnancy. When a baby is born out of wedlock, it is best that the parents marry. If marriage is not possible, adoption should be considered, preferably through LDS Family Services
