I have been blessed by the Lord in more ways then one. As a latter day saint I have been blessed with two worlds. I have been in the Creedal Christian world as a born again Christian and I'm a latter day saint Mormon in the Mormon Christian world. I still am a born again Christian and have sacred beliefs from my Evangelical Christian background that I cherish in my heart that I know is true, and I'm a Mormon that knows in my heart the fullness of the gospel is true. I know that both the Bible and Book of Mormon are true as well as the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. I am both a born again Christian and Mormon convert latter day saint. I'm a born again Christian Mormon. I have the best of both worlds. I understand both worlds intensely and understand and appreciate both Christian cultures. Mormons are Christian just as much as the Pentecostals, Seventh-day Adventist, Methodists, Presbyterian, Episcopalians, Roman Catholics, Baptists etc. The wonderful blessing is that Christianity is very diverse and each church has its own traditions that are sacred. In my experience, Mormons have more in common with other churches then most people would realize. Mormons and Evangelical Christians both believe the holy Bible and both Mormons and Evangelicals love the Holy Bible. Mormons and Evangelicals both believe in the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ, Mormons and Evangelicals both believe that Jesus is Jehovah God is both the Old Testament and New Testament, both believe that Jesus is the son of God, the king of kings, God Emmanuel with us, Jehovah, and Mormons and Evangelicals both believe that it's only through Jesus Christ that you can have salvation. Both Mormons and Pentecostals believe in all the gifts prophecy, visions, speaking in tongues etc, both Mormons and Pentecostals believe in faith repentance, baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost thru the laying on of hands. I know this because I've been in the Pentecostal churches. Mormons and Roman Catholics both have in common the sacraments baptism, confirmation. The Mormons baptize for the dead and the Roman Catholics pray for the dead. See the similarity. Mormons and Roman Catholics have different Bible canons compared to the Protestants. Mormons have an open canon the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price as scripture and the Roman Catholics have the Holy Bible and the apocrypha writings as scripture and tradition. Mormons and the Swedenborgan church both believe in three different heavens. Mormons and Buddhists both believe that our souls will progress even though both religions have a different definition of progress. Mormons and Asian religions both have in common the family unit and put emphasis on family. The Mormons and Unitarians are both universal in their teaching of salvation. The Mormons and the Swedenborg church are the only two churches I know that teach in eternal marriage. There's more in common with Mormonism and Christianity then one realizes. Its good to see Mormons and Evangelicals dialogue together. In the book “How Wide is the Divide,” Craig l Bloomberg and Stephen Robinson both dialogue. A very good book to read. We are all brothers and sisters in the human family of God and the body of Christ. Remember when Christ resurrects all of us from the dead it will be everyone not just Mormons or Protestants or Catholics or Jews it will be everybody. We all have the faith and that element faith is the Lord Jesus Christ who we are all under.

One of the misconceptions that our Christian brothers have about the Mormons is the that LDS church teaches that they are the only true church on the face of the earth and all others are apostate. This has lead people from the outside to believe that if you don't join the LDS church, being the true church, you will go to hell. I know from experience before converting to the LDS church I used to think that way. I grew up as a Roman Catholic and before Vatican 2 changed things the Roman Catholic Church claimed that there was only salvation thru the Roman Catholic Church, being the true church. After Vatican 2 in 1965 things changed. Roman Catholics recognize brothers and sisters outside the Roman Catholic Church in the same way that Mormons believe that other Christians who are not Mormons are also brother and sisters in Christ. I remember before converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I struggled with the fact the LDS church said they were the only true church when I knew that I had experienced the Lord in my life and felt his Holy Spirit in other churches before coming to the fullness of the gospel. Traditional Christians have had a problem in the past that Catholicism would say there was no salvation outside the Roman Catholic Church so that's why people from the outside of the LDS church have that misconception that Mormons are the only ones going to heaven, which isn't true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church on the earth having the fullness of the gospel. That doesn't mean the rest of the churches in Christianity don't have the truth. The majority of the Christian churches have more then a fragment of truth most churches possess ninety percent of the truth of the gospel. What did Joseph Smith's first vision mean the when the Lord told Joseph Smith to join none of the churches for they were n abomination in his sight and there creeds were wrong? What did the Lord mean by this?? Many of our Christian brothers and sisters have taken this out of context and misunderstood what the Lord was saying to Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was searching for the truth and he went to different churches but never joined any of them. The Lord was referring to Joseph Smith not to join any of the churches in his town. The first vision of Joseph Smith isn't saying that Mormons were the only Christians. The first vision isn't saying that there isn't truth in other churches. The lord was talking to Joseph Smith not to join any of the churches of his day.
El Santo Gringo: Thanks for your comment, John. It is certainly true that the Spirit can touch people's hearts, even in churches outside of the LDS Church. Those churches also teach many important and beautiful truths.

The Plan of Salvation (how to get to Heaven) really doesn't have a distinct "hell." People who are wicked suffer for their sins, but eventually receive a degree of glory. Only those very few who have had the heavens opened to them and decided to openly oppose the work of the Lord qualify for the Mormon version of eternal damnation.
