In John 12:3-7 Mary anoints Christ's feet with very costly oil. Judas suggested that that oil would have been better used if it had been sold and the money given to the poor. The same principle could be likened to Latter-day Saint temples. Of course it is important to help the poor, but Christ's answer taught, in my opinion, that to worship God is also important. The first great commandment is after all to love God and the second commandment is to love our fellow man.
