Estudio de las Escrituras: La Restauración

Los mormones creen que el profeta bíblico Isaías previó la restauración de la Iglesia de Dios en los últimos días. A lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo 19, miles de mormones de muchas naciones emigraron a un lugar llamado “Desseret”, un lugar que consideraban su “Sión”, una “Nueva Jerusalén”. En el siglo 19, cuando el territorio de Desseret trató de convertirse en un estado de los EE.UU., los miembros de la Iglesia querían que el estado tuviera el mismo nombre, “Desseret”. El gobierno de EE.UU., sin embargo, rechazó esa petición y dio al nuevo Estado el nombre de “Utah”. A pesar de que los miembros de la Iglesia y el gobierno en ese momento no lo sabía, en el idioma nativo de la zona “Utah” significa “la cima de la montaña”.

Isaiah 2:2-3:

• And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
• And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Después de profetizar acerca de la apostasía (en el versículo 10), el profeta bíblico Isaías previó el alumbramiento de una “obra maravillosa y un prodigio”, la restauración de la Iglesia de Cristo en los últimos días.

Isaiah 29:14:

• Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

Lucas profetizó acerca de la restitución de los últimos días y señaló que los santos profetas la habían previsto desde el principio.

Acts 3:20-21:

• And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
• Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

El apóstol Pablo también previó un tiempo futuro, que él llamó la “dispensación del cumplimiento de los tiempos”, en el que las enseñanzas originales de Cristo estarían presentes una vez más en la tierra.

Ephesians 1:10:

El apóstol Juan también previó una restauración del “evangelio eterno” hecho por medio de visitas celestiales. Ese evangelio está siendo predicado a “toda nación, tribu, lengua y pueblo” a través del programa misionero SUD alrededor del mundo.

Revelations 14:6-7:

• And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
• Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
