Interesting Mormon Trivia #1

by AllAboutMormons.com Webmaster -

I recently bought two very entertaining books about Mormonism: “The Skousen Book of Mormon World Records” and “Brother Paul’s Mormon Bathroom Reader.” These books are full of little-known Mormon trivia. I thought I’d occasionally list some of the interesting Mormon facts I’ve learned. Hope you enjoy!

  1. The famous 19th-century criminal Butch Cassidy grew up in a Mormon family. He left the church in his teenage years and instead chose a life of crime.
  2. A Book of Mormon has twice been in space. Astronauts Jake Garn and Don Lind, both Mormons, carried their copies of the Book of Mormon aboard the space shuttle.
  3. Sister Irene Colvin Corbett carried a Book of Mormon on the Titanic. She died in that terrible tragedy.
  4. The oldest person ever to be baptized in the Mormon Church was Encarnacion Banares Rampas of Cuzco, Peru, in 1983. She was 118 years old.
  5. Back in the 19th century, a woman in a troubled marriage came sobbing to Brigham Young, who was then the president of the Mormon Church. “My husband keeps telling me to go to hell!” she cried. “Don’t go!” President Young responded.
