Hi friend. This is a phrase that comes from the book of Malachi in the Old Testament (Malachi 4:6). Mormons believe that we can perform sacred ceremonies for our ancestors in temples. For example, many of our ancestors, through no fault of their own, were unable to be baptized by one who had the correct authority while they were alive. We can be baptized for our ancestors vicariously in the Temple (1 Corinthians 15:29). That way, they can receive this important ordinance and progress in the next life. When we think about our ancestors and about how we can help them continue on their journey in the next life, we are turning our hearts to them.
