Help Hugo’s Fight Against Cancer

by Fernando Campos -

The artist Hugo Lara.
My good friend Lucia recently told me her brother is struggling with cancer. He lives in Ecuador and doesn’t have the means to pay for his treatment. Her family is raising money for his medical bills on GoFundMe.com. Please click here to donate.

I don’t typically post things like this, but Lucia has regularly answered questions on this site for over five years, probably more than any other contributor. She’s a great online missionary and a great friend who I can personally vouch for.

Here’s a brief description of her brother, the artist Hugo Lara, written by one of his children:

My father is everything to me. He was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in October of 2014, after a year of health challenges. He is a very caring and loving father, who has always kept his family close and loved being alive. He has been an artist in Ecuador since 1965 and has painted thousands of art pieces that are now around the world. He followed in his father’s footsteps, who is now 92 years old and was an artist.

I never thought that I would be thinking about losing my father before he was 70 years old. Today, he is fighting to stay alive and live more than ever. However, due to the pain and challenges this disease causes he is no longer able to paint with the same dynamic he has been for almost 50 years and has lost his earning capability.

His medical bills are ongoing now, due to having to take medication every day and following hormone therapy. My father’s diet has changed with this disease. Since weight loss is common, we’ve had to make sure he follows a strict diet plan. We are not following a chemotherapy treatment at this time but if that is to come in the future I am not sure how we will be able to pay for this. My family and I have come together to help in every way we can but we can see our help not being enough in the future with everything fighting this disease will require. We are asking for you to help in anyway you can by donating, sharing the story, or praying for us. Thanks.
