I am a Catholic girl who is in a relationship with a Mormon guy. In a year, he’s planning to apply for a mission. What can I do to help him prepare in his mission?

Hello, friend! This questions shows such a wonderful level of support for your boyfriend! Way to go! The best things that you can do to help him prepare are:

1. Be encouraging about his decision.

He is going to do one of the most selfless services there is. Know that he will be sad to leave you, but he is being the kind of person that a supportive girlfriend like yourself can be proud of.

2. Keep the blessings of chastity in your relationship.

Chastity: What are the limits?
A relationship is about trust, respect, and valuing the other person's happiness. God has taught us the law of chastity, which includes saving sex as a sacred act for marriage, to help us maintain these blessings. Even for those who have not always followed this, repentance will bring mercy and these blessings can be claimed in whole. This will be extremely valuable in helping him prepare to represent Jesus Christ and serve others.

3. Learn about his beliefs, and share yours with him.

Everyone has different comfort levels talking about spiritual things. Whether you have focused extensively on spiritual things or have not had much direct experience with it, these conversations can be deep and meaningful in preparation for this wonderful event. For example, you could ask him about the Book of Mormon and the Bible, where we come from, why we are here, and where we are going. Share with him your feelings about God, following Jesus Christ, and other spiritual things that are meaningful to you.

God bless you!

Hi,

Something my Mission President always said to me on my mission its the spirit that matters most. Have him do the things that would bring the spirit into his life more fully. Also have him read the scriptures everyday. You may wonder why the spirit. If you know the scriptures and you don't have the spirit. You can hug them all the day long but it will never help you with helping others till you have the spirit with you.
