Listen to a sermon about divorce given by Dallin H. Oaks, one of the worldwide leaders of the Church.
Mormons generally discourage divorce because Jesus discouraged it, but divorce in case of abuse and infidelity is acceptable. Because there are two kinds of marriages in Mormonism (legal and religious), there are also different kinds of "divorce":
  1. "Divorce": the dissolution of a legal marriage
  2. "Annulment": a decree that a legal marriage was illegal or invalid
  3. "Cancellation of sealing": the dissolution of a religious marriage
Once divorced, Mormon men and women are both free to date and remarry. In the case of a sealing cancellation, they can also be resealed (remarried) in a Mormon temple to a second spouse.
