How do I find out if I am still a member of the Mormon Church. I was baptized for the dead in the temple 30 times.

Mormon Temple
The temple in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Hi Debra. Thanks for your question. How wonderful that you have been so active in temple worship in the past! The Church believes baptism covenants are very personal and so avoids canceling those covenants whenever possible. If you haven't been formally excommunicated or explicitly requested that your name be removed from Church records, your baptism covenants are still valid, and you're still a member of the church!

I want to invite you to come back to full church activity, Debra! As you may remember, church participation brings great spiritual peace. The Church doesn't make all our problems go away, but it gives us spiritual strength in Jesus Christ to face and overcome our challenges. I suggest you contact the Mormon missionaries to ask for help to come back. I also recently published an article on my blog that you might find helpful. May God bless you with the strength you need to find spiritual recovery. I'll pray for you.

If you were baptized into the Church and have not requested to have your records removed or recieved a notice of your excommunication, you are still a member of the Church. You can contact any Bishop or the Church Records department in Salt Lake City if you would like to locate or update your membership records.

Bishops contact info can be found at maps.lds.org and searching for a local congregation.

The Records Department can be mailed at

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Membership Records Dept.
50 E. North Temple
Salt Lake City, UT 84111

Or reached by phone at (801) 240-3500

Unless you were officially removed from the records of the church for whatever reason (and believe me, you would know, it is not something that would be done without your knowledge) then you would still be considered a member of the church.
