Scripture-Study List: Prophets and Apostles

God told the Old-Testament prophet Amos that He would always call prophets as His spokesmen.

Amos 3:7:

  • Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

The story of Moses and the revelation of the Ten Commandments is a dramatic example of the role of a true prophet. First God gave the Ten Commandments to His prophet, Moses. Moses then relayed those commandments to God’s people Israel.

Exodus 20:3-22:

  • And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
  • And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
  • And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
